Professor Name Generator FAQ
Straight answers about the free fictional professor name generator: how it works, what you can use it for, and where the limits are.
What is a professor name generator? +
A professor name generator creates fictional academic identities — a name with a title like Professor or Dr., plus a department. Writers, game designers and roleplayers use them to populate fictional universities, magical schools and research teams.
Should I use Professor or Dr.? +
It depends on your setting. In the US system, Professor is a job title and Dr. marks a doctoral degree. In the UK system, Professor is a senior rank held by relatively few academics. Our titles guide explains the difference in full.
Are the names unique? +
They are random combinations of name parts, so they are invented but not guaranteed unique. A combination could coincidentally match a real academic's name. Search before using one in a published work.
Can I use generated names in a published book or game? +
Yes, for creative works. The names are generic combinations with no creative authorship attached. Still, do the quick search described above — you don't want an accidental collision with a real, well-known professor.
Is the generator really private? +
Yes. Plain JavaScript in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues(). Nothing sent over the network, no cookies, nothing stored. See our privacy page.
Can I use these names as fake experts or credentials? +
No. Never present a generated name as a real professor, researcher or authority — not in quotes, testimonials, reviews or credentials. Fictional academics belong in fiction.
Do I need an account? +
No. No sign-up, no email, no download. Open the page, pick your options, and generate.
What is the whimsical fantasy style? +
It swaps in storybook surnames — Blackwood, Nightingale, Moonstone, Foxglove — for names suited to magical schools and fantasy academies. See the naming guide for when to use it.
